Review Notes

The debut album from Auckland fuzz-pop trio/zombie enthusiasts, the Sneaks, kicks off with drums like horse's hooves and a shot of surf guitar, then launches into a hooky dazzler with handclaps and 'oohs' all over the show that would make even Ric Ocasek proud - 'Throwback' indeed.
Since their early EP You All Suck came out, launching the killer single 'Kuzai' onto the student radio circuit, local cool-hunters have picked the Sneaks as the next big thing; confirmed by the best new band award at the 2005 b-net awards. Live, they're a force to be reckoned with - charmingly, foot-stompingly good, with an aesthetic and attitude like a 50 cent lolly mixture - and on disc they're just as engaging.
The EP was described as the sound of someone taking an axe to a 13 year old girl's record collection and re-assembling the debris, and that kooky profiling still rings true on the LP; it's a collage of influences and fun times (much like the cover art, which is a photo-collage of people and things that the Sneaks hold dear to their hearts: Bob Cardy, viewmaster reels and broccoli, for example).
