The press release that accompanies the new 7-song CD from Wellington's So So Modern includes a quote from the band (charmingly opening with "Hello! Nice to meet you") that talks about their collective interest in performance and music - which sums So So Modern up nicely, as they're as much about the live act as they are about the content. Luckily, this translates surprisingly well onto disc, as you can hear the band's personality all over Friendly Fires.
So So Modern are an indie/electro bunch that have won NZ hearts through popular tours with the A Low Hum crowd, as well as off their own back, and are now pursuing international recognition. If this small offering is anything to go by (not to mention the 4-odd albums that member Grayson Gilmour has produced on his own) then these guys should do very well with brightly-coloured and cheerful crowds the world over.
