Surely New Zealands busiest band!? Since forming in late 2003 they seem to be perpectually touring the country as well as making numerous jaunts to Australia, the U.K, Europe and the U.S - where they found time to record this album with none other than Mr. Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac, PJ Harvey) at his Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. Then mastered it at EMI's famed Abbey Road studios in London.
This Self-titled "mini album" (it clocks in at just over 20 minutes!) follows on from where their self-titled EP (also released by Capitalrecordings earlier this year on CD and Vinyl) left off. As one would expect from an Albini recording, it does an even better job of capturing the bands barbed live energy. Michael Prain and Henry Oliver must be one of the best rock rhthym sections around at the moment, and guitarist/vocalists Andrew Wilson sure is one hell of an angry young man; his vocal chords take a hammering from the first note to the last as he spits cutting and cynical lines out in his bratty pre-pubescent yelp.
Check them out at a venue near you (no matter where you live it seems!). Excellent stuff and absolutely recommended! (smokecds.com)
