Straight out of Kentucky, My Morning Jacket have moved on to album number three without causing a ripple, but that doesnt mean they dont deserve to, in fact after all the acclaim handed to Kings Of Leons debut long player, \'It Still Moves\' is an even better (if perhaps subtler) slice of real Americana. Songwriter Jim James not only has the name of cowboy but has the scope to take in all of the mid-west, the album moves through traditional country rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd-style boogie grooves and textured, Spiritualized style guitar melodies - all held together by a spacious and warm production from James himself. Dancefloors is a song about life on the road, with a guitar hook youll be humming for days and a closing section punctuated by Memphis style horns. Run Thru suggests a more psychedelic feel, almost like the Allman Brothers at their peak, blues fed through the eyes of a modernist perhaps. Golden is a simply stunning slice of Mavericks style country, James coming across like Gram Parsons at his best. Other standouts include One Big Holiday, which sounds a lot like Neil Young, the lyrics poetic, the guitars shining blissfully in harmony, and Easy Morning Rebel which chugs along with the feel of \'Exile On Main Street\' era-Stones - in other words just great rock & roll. If ever a band deserved a wider audience then My Morning Jacket fit the bill, they are simply impossible to fault, and the album is almost like a \"best of Americana\", yet with a song writer good enough to make \'It Still Moves\' constantly fresh. This has to be one of the best American rock releases of the last five years, bar none. Recommended. (smokecds.com)
