Easily New Zealand's most successful solo female performer, Bic Runga goes from strength to strength, currently focusing her attentions on UK and Europe (and getting some very favourable reviews too). During a quick return trip to her homeland at the start of October 2003 Runga teamed up with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (her hometown and one of a small number of professional orchestra's in NZ) to do a "one night only performance". So successful was the performance, that Sony Music (under an implicit quality proviso from Runga herself) have rush released the recording in time for Christmas. Featuring six original compositions, plus five Runga interpretations - Dylan's "One More Cup Of Coffee", Jacques Brel's "Ne Me Quitte Pas", Burt Bacharach's "Anyone Who Had A Heart", Nick Cave's "And No More Shall We Part", Rose Royce's "Wishing On A Star" - this set finds Runga relaxed and in very fine voice, while the orchestra backing (with the aid of electric bass, guitar, drums and keyboards) gives these songs a nice depth of sound. The result is one of those pop world peculiarity's - a spontaneous recording of genuine class and substance, and proof that there are many string's to the bow of the very talented Bic Runga.
