Having now firmly relocated to Melbourne from Wellington, Fur Patrol have delivered the album of their career so far. While the first single "Precious" gives an indication of a slightly "harder" direction, it is songs such as "Someone You Really Want" and "Art Of Conversation" that give a better idea of the musical growth and development in the Fur Patrol world - sprawling lyrically demanding pop epics that utilise the strength of singer Julia Deans' commanding and dynamic vocal presence to wonderful effect, backed by a band, that frankly, sound confident, relaxed and better than ever.
Production is excellent, undoubtedly helped by some mixing and mastering in London, giving the album (and band) a depth and real fullness that previously had been missing from recorded works.
'Collider' is an outstanding album, already sounding better with each listen, and destined to rival tour mates Pacifier in the critical plaudits it will undoubtedly receive. This will be one of the best "rock" records to come from a New Zealand band in 2003. Guaranteed. Recommended. (smokecds.com)
