Relying on a good old fashioned touring ethic and a slew of fine pop songs (largely from the pen of band leader and driving force Don McGlashan - also responsible for the wonderful Front Lawn albums), The Mutton Birds, like Split Enz before them, have made a fine career out of making distinctly New Zealand flavoured commercial pop music without ever having to sell their souls. This alone warrants respect, add to that four great albums, and we have this long overdue wee career retrospective - including one new track, their delightful interpretation of Flying Nun band Sneaky Feelings' "Not To Take Sides". If you're yet to experience the kiwiana magic of The Mutton Birds, don't hestitate you will be rewarded with a rich and unique listening experience, and if your a fan, well it's all here on one beaut disc.
