Unlike most of their contemporaries Bobby Gillespie's Primal Scream have remained a vital and uncompromising force in modern music, steadfastly sticking to some kind of secret masterplan that has taken them from the heady rise of UK dance culture (the massive 'Screamadelica') to the ever morphing electro-rock beast that brought us the stunningly explosive 'Xtrmntr' in 2000, and now the more muted, but just as satisfying 'Evil Heat'. With production duties pretty much handled by either Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) or Andrew Weatherall & Keith Tenniswood (Two Lone Swordsmen), along with a stable and solidified line-up, plus guests including Jim Reid (The Jesus and Mary Chain), Robert Plant and Kate Moss (a duet with Gillespie on the Lee Hazlewood/Nancy Sinatra classic 'Some Velvet Morning'), Primal Scream remain an intriguing and frequently challenging force, able to provide the willing listener with plenty to digest.
