He's just turned fifty, but you wouldn't know it from this album which finds this kiwi legend in energetic form. First as leader of Split Enz (which included younger brother Neil), then through his chameleon like solo career including a creative stint with Neil's Crowded House, Tim has been an animated performer, constantly searching and developing a style that is uniquely his, while allowing his songwriting to assimilate these changes in the process. So to the latest, it flits between energised Enz like rockers, edgy song-based work along the lines of Dave Dobbyn and Australia's Paul Kelly, and delightful sing-along type ballads that him and Neil simply excell at. A nice trimmed down band add to the spontaneity and energy too. He's kind of like our own Elvis Costello. Recommended. (smokecds.com)
